Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.60.28 โ Everything You Need to Know
What Changed
Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.60.28 dropped on 22 September 2026 for Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, iOS, and Android. It's a work-in-progress build, so some rough edges are expected, but the list of fixes is impressively long.
- Hoppers and containers keep their items when replaced by
/fillor/setblockcommands, a long-standing frustration for redstone builders is finally gone. - Redstone now connects visually to custom blocks that use a Redstone producer component, matching how it actually behaves in-game.
- Red and Brown Mushrooms once again require a supporting block beneath them, restoring correct growth rules.
- Strider dismount behaviour has been overhauled: stepping off a Strider now places you on a safe, non-lava block in the direction you're looking.
- HUD status effects now display correctly when a weaker but longer-lasting effect kicks back in after a stronger short effect wears off.
- Character Creator armour layering is fixed, outerwear, socks, belts, and other custom skin layers now properly hide under equipped armour pieces.
- Sheep grazing animations no longer get stuck in a loop.
- Crash fixes cover malformed resource archives and too many hearts on the HUD, improving overall stability.
- Server navigation is improved: failing to connect to a server now returns you to the Servers tab rather than dumping you at the main menu.
- Custom dimension cloud heights can now span the full โ512 to 512 range, unlocking much more creative dimension design for add-on makers.
- Switch 2 split-screen performance has been tuned for smoother play.
Why It Matters
Several of these fixes target everyday pain points that have been quietly irritating players for months. Losing chest or hopper contents to a fill command was a real hazard for anyone building automated farms or adventure maps, now that risk is gone. The Strider dismount fix removes a way players could accidentally fall into lava, which is both a quality-of-life and a safety-of-your-inventory win. For creators and server operators running Bedrock add-ons, the Redstone visual fix and the expanded cloud-height range give them more reliable, expressive tools to work with.
Java and Bedrock
This release is Bedrock only, it covers the Beta & Preview programme on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, iOS, and Android (with a possible short delay on the Android Google Play beta this week). There is no corresponding Java Edition snapshot in this update. Java players on the stable release branch are unaffected and see no changes.
For Server Owners
If you run a Bedrock or cross-play server, a few things are worth noting:
- The hopper/container fix means fill-based build scripts are now safe to use near storage blocks, re-test any automation sequences that previously worked around this bug.
- The new dedicated server properties for configuring persistent and transient ticking area limits (including an "unlimited" option) give server admins finer control over performance versus feature trade-offs, useful for busy worlds with lots of spawners or command-block chains.
- Custom dimension JSON now validates more strictly: invalid
format_versionwarnings are cleaned up, and bad JSON UI expressions throw a proper content error rather than silently doing nothing. Review any custom add-on packs before deploying to players. - The new
on_placedcallback for Jigsaw Structures is still developer-preview only, but it's a signal that structure-based game modes will gain more scripting hooks soon.
For Parents
Nothing in this update changes online safety settings, account permissions, or content ratings. The fixes here are mostly under-the-hood quality improvements, fewer crashes, better menus, and smoother sign-in. One friendly note: the sign-in timeout fix means that if your child's Xbox Live connection hangs, the game will now surface a clear network error rather than freezing indefinitely, making it easier to diagnose a dodgy Wi-Fi connection. The Realms section also received several UI tidying changes, including clearer subscription management, handy if you manage a Realms subscription for your family.
For Players
Here's the good stuff at a glance:
- Strider riders, rejoice! Hopping off your Strider in the Nether now drops you safely on solid ground, no more accidental lava dips.
- Status effect icons on your HUD now tell the truth again, so you'll know when a potion is actually still protecting you.
- Your skin looks right, custom layers like socks and belts properly hide under armour, so your character looks exactly the way you designed them.
- Sheep will stop doing their eerie frozen-grazing impression.
- If a server connection fails, you go back to the Servers list instead of the main menu, tiny fix, big relief when you're trying to reconnect quickly.
Remember, this is a beta build. Save your important worlds before loading them in Preview, just in case.
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action needed, and SNT kingdoms are unaffected. SNT Gaming kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 / Velocity / Fabric 1.21.4 backends, all Java-based infrastructure. Bedrock players join through Geyser+Floodgate, which translates between the Java server and Bedrock clients. However, Mojang's new year-based versioning scheme (26.x) is not yet supported by PaperMC, Velocity, or the Via suite, so Bedrock clients on version 26.x cannot connect to SNT kingdoms at this time. This is an ecosystem-wide situation, not something specific to SNT. We're watching the Paper, Velocity, and Geyser projects closely and will update kingdoms as soon as the migration path is ready. In the meantime, Bedrock players should remain on a supported version to keep playing, and Java players on 1.13โ1.21.11 can connect as normal.
