Minecraft Bedrock 26.52 Hotfix: Fixes for Switch, iOS, Spectators & More
What Changed
Bedrock Edition 26.52 is a targeted hotfix that rolled out on 25 September 2026. Because it goes through each platform's own approval process, it may arrive on your device a little later than the official date, that's completely normal. Here's a plain-English rundown of every fix:
Stability & Performance
- Nintendo Switch network stability, Connections on Switch were dropping or behaving erratically; this patch shores that up.
- iOS launch failure, Some iPhones and iPads refused to open the game at all after the previous update. That hard blocker is now gone (MCPE-242503).
Graphical
- Older Windows graphics hardware, Cube-map array texture support was being detected incorrectly, causing visual glitches on machines with legacy GPUs.
- Invisible inventory items, Items vanished from view when Display Brightness was set to anything other than default and anti-aliasing was dialled down to 1 (MCPE-241108). Both conditions had to be true, which made it tricky to track down.
Gameplay
- Spectator Mode projectile hits, Players in Spectator Mode were still getting struck by arrows and other projectiles, which completely defeats the purpose of the mode (MCPE-242446).
- Cushions disappearing on chunk reload, Decorative cushion blocks placed in a chunk would vanish whenever that chunk unloaded and reloaded, making builds look broken (MCPE-241970).
Add-Ons
- Achievement lock-out from Marketplace add-ons, A particularly frustrating bug introduced in 26.50 meant that older worlds running any Marketplace add-on silently disabled achievements from that version onwards. This fix restores achievements retroactively for affected worlds (MCPE-242586).
User Interface
- Multiplayer onboarding smoother start, When a new player chose a multiplayer world during first-time setup, the game now launches that world straight away instead of waiting for the Character Creator skin to finish loading.
Why It Matters
Hotfixes like this one are easy to overlook because they don't add shiny new features, but they matter a lot in practice. The achievement bug alone (MCPE-242586) is the kind of silent issue that could quietly rob players of weeks of earned achievements without anyone realising until much later. The iOS launch crash and the Switch stability fix are equally important for players on those platforms, where the game simply wasn't working properly.
Java and Bedrock
This release is Bedrock Edition only. Java Edition has its own separate release cadence and is unaffected by this hotfix. If you play on PC with the official Java client, nothing changes for you with this patch.
For Server Owners
If you run a Bedrock-native server (Bedrock Dedicated Server or similar), the only server-side consideration here is the add-on achievement fix, if your server uses Marketplace add-ons in worlds created before 26.50, verify that achievements are working again after players update their clients. No server software update is required to deliver these fixes; they are all client-side changes.
For Parents
Two things worth knowing here. First, if your child plays on an iPhone, iPad, or Nintendo Switch, make sure the 26.52 update has downloaded, it fixes real problems that could stop the game from working. Second, the achievement bug fix is good news: if your child seemed to stop earning achievements recently despite playing normally, this patch should restore things to how they should be. Check that the game is fully up to date on their device and achievements should start appearing again.
For Players
Good news, especially if you love Spectator Mode, you can now fly around your world as a true ghost without stray arrows ruining the vibe. Cushion decorators, rejoice too: your carefully placed cushions will actually stay where you put them after chunks reload. And if your inventory items kept going invisible when you tweaked brightness or anti-aliasing settings, that annoying visual glitch is finally gone. Update as soon as the patch hits your platform!
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
The short answer is no action is needed on the kingdom side, but there's an important caveat for Bedrock players specifically.
SNT kingdoms run Paper 1.21.11 backends with Geyser + Floodgate to welcome Bedrock crossplay players. However, Minecraft 26.x clients are not yet supported by our current stack, PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via family of plugins have not yet migrated to Mojang's year-based versioning scheme, which means a Bedrock client on version 26.52 cannot connect to an SNT kingdom at this time.
Java players connecting on profiles 1.13 through 1.21.11 are completely unaffected and can continue playing normally via ViaVersion/ViaBackwards/ViaRewind. We are watching the PaperMC and Geyser ecosystems closely and will announce Bedrock 26.x compatibility the moment it is safely available. In the meantime, Bedrock players should keep their previous compatible client version handy.
